I know I have mentioned here before that I tend to be a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to pop cultural phenomena. Basically, I ignore things or am irritated by them while they are the rage, and then get into them later and figure out what people were so excited about. This is problematic only because by the time I am all up into something, usually everyone else has moved on and nobody wants to talk to me about it anymore. Well, also because I get made fun of for it.
And so is the case this time. Finally, after literally years of recommendations by a couple of my friends, I watched Buffy.
And watched and watched. Over the course of yesterday I watched the entire first season and the first two episodes of the second.
I know you all already know this, but it's fabulous. It clearly influenced my beloved Joan of Arcadia, and it takes me back to my years as an Anne Rice devotee in such a positive way. It is exactly what my lazy, depressed, fending-off-a-cold self needed this weekend, and I am practically twisting in anticipation of six more seasons.
So, to my Buffy-loving friends: you were right all along. Again.

Yay! You do have to be careful with some of the later seasons, but the first few are to be loved.

Told you!!! Buffy is genius. Buffy is the best television show ever made. There are a few ugly bits (Season 6 is pretty dark, because it deals with the concept of addiction in several of the characters) but damn, it's good.
If you're getting as geeked out as I am about Buffy, check out this website. It's kind of Buffy heaven.
